Biohacking

Scary word isn’t it? Biohacking. Being the science fiction buff that I am, biohacking conjures up images of super soldiers. Half human half robot types of things. So I decided to study up on biohacking.

By definition: noun: biohacking; plural noun: biohackings

1. the activity of exploiting genetic material experimentally without regard to accepted ethical standards, or for criminal purposes.

That doesn’t sound scary at all. 😳

What are examples of biohacking?

1. Optimize sleep for longevity

2. Consider intermittent fasting for metabolic health

3. Add in sauna sessions for heart health

4. Train in zone 2 for improved endurance

5. Incorporate strength training for healthy aging

6. Make time for meditation to de-stress

7. Supplement with l-theanine to help relax

8. Include caffeine in your day to support cognition

9. Try cold water therapy for improved recovery

One video I watched used the example, if your body is suffering from acid reflux it’s telling you it’s time to change your diet. Loose weight or both.

That doesn’t sound too bad. I can get behind that. Listening to what your body is trying to tell you. For some of us, it’s like trying to figure out what your pet is whimpering about.

Another article called biohacking a “diy of medicine.”

One man was taking up to 50 different vitamin supplements a day. Hmmm, that’s a hard pass for me. Thanks. I do well to remember to take the 4 that I already use. 3 of which were recommended by my doctor.

“Metamorphosis is a movie about where Keith (an aspiring author) traces the bloody myth of Hungarian countess Elizabeth Bathory from the 16th-century for his new book. On his journey through Eastern Europe, he falls in love with the beautiful Elizabeth, daughter of the Blood Countess and an immortal vampire.” The story about the countess was circulated that she drank the blood of virgins to keep her youth. 16th biohacking?

“Some biohackers have taken things to the extreme, with reports of people getting transfusions of plasma from young donors to fight aging.” 21st century biohacking.

I’m following a diet plan to try to jumpstart my metabolism. Does this mean I’m biohacking?

This is not medical advice.
