Black tie
To celebrate Sher’s success in getting well, Data decided to throw a little party. He invited all the senior staff to a black tie affair.
Jean-Luc and Beverly were the first to arrive. Beverly was glowing with happiness. “Wow!” She remarked. Brian McKnight’s Back at One was playing in the background.
The holodeck was almost dark in order to bring out the clear lights that were strung across the frame of a hexagon shaped gazebo. Around the bottom of each leg of the gazebo was a ring of daisies. Under the gazebo frame, were five sets of bistro style, two person tables with chairs. The tables had clear glass bowls with white floating candles in them. Around the base of each bowl was a ring of daisies.
There was a stage in front of the room. Beverly could see the outline of instruments. The stage was lined with the same centerpieces the table had. There was a large area for dancing. “This is so romantic, Data.”
“Thank you.” He stepped from behind a leg of the gazebo. He was dressed in a black tuxedo. The song changed to Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison.
“You are full of surprises.” Beverly smiled.
“My memory is full of surprises, I am catching up.”
“Mr. Data, I believe you have outdone yourself.” Picard smiled.
“So, who all is coming?” Beverly asked.
“It is a surprise.” He winked, seating them at the middle table. “Doctor, green is such a flattering color on you. You look radiant.”
“Well, thank you Data.” She blushed.
Ben, the little bartender from Ten-Forward took their drink order.
Next to show up was Wil and Deanna, they looked like a perfect happy little couple. Data set them on the right corner in front of the stage.
Deanna spoke to Beverly, “we should do this more often, we never get a chance to play dress-up.”
“I love your dress.”
Deanna was wearing a little black dress with a silver shawl. “Thank you. Will helped pick it out.”
Geordi came in, “Data, I am shocked. Where did you get this idea from?”
“I am unsure. I remember this place somehow.” He sat Geordi at the back right table behind Deanna and Will. Pride and Joy by Marvin Gaye started playing.
Madam Torva appeared in the door. “Madam,” Data bowed. She took no his
extended arm, as he sat her across from Geordi in the left corner.
“Oh, my students are going to love this.”
“As will everyone else.”
As he was setting Madam Torva, Guinan showed up. Shout by Otis Day & The Knights started playing. Data danced across the floor to the door to escort Guinan to her table with Geordi. She laughed, “Where did you learn to dance like that?”
“I have no idea.” He smiled.
There was a chime at Data’s door. With an unsteady voice Sher said, “come.”
Worf entered. He cleared his throat. “Are you my escort for the evening Mr. Worf?” She smiled.
“You look amazing.” Worf stammered.
Sher had on a red strapless, slinky stretch lycra Ottoman evening gown with a sheer rhinestone stretch mesh waist and overlay. The dress had a dancing slit from the floor to the middle of the thigh. She had on matching Opera gloves and a red choker. Delicate red earrings caught Worf’s attention. Her feet were caressed by 4 inch red, slip-on spike heel sandals tied at the ankles by criss-cross straps, and a strap across the toe with a bow.
“You are most kind. I hope DaTa knows what he is doing?”
“Do you not feel up to this?” Worf asked as they walked toward the holodeck.
“I do, it’s been awhile since I have gotten all dressed up with someplace to go.”
“When you feel like it, I would,” he paused. “Could I indulge a favor?”
“Depends on the favor.”
“I would like to introduce you to my son.”
“I think we can arrange that.”
They stopped at the holodeck door. She drew a deep breath. “You are nervous?”Worf asked.
“Yes, everyone gets nervous at the ball.” She smiled.
Worf reached in and kissed her on the cheek. “It has been an honor to meet you.
“The honor has been all mine brave warrior.”
