And – Stranger in a Strange Land is a 1961 science fiction novel by American author Robert A. Heinlein. It tells the story of Valentine Michael Smith, a human who comes to Earth in early adulthood after being born on the planet Marsand raised by Martians, and explores his interaction with an eventual transformation of Terran culture.
In 2012, the Library of Congress named it one of 88 “Books that Shaped America”.[4]

Stranger in a Strange Land is recognized as a sci-fi classic (also a great Leon Russell song) and I generally love Heinlein, but man, I could not make it through this one. I’m searching my bookshelf right now and I don’t even know what I did with it! Some classics just don’t take with me. I hope you have better luck with it! I’m enjoying New Earth, but sad that Chico stayed behind.☹️

Thank you. 💕 I thought for the story it would be best if he stayed on the ground. So far, I’m really enjoying SiaSL. I’ll look that song up. Thanks. That’s understandable. It’s easy to get lost in some of the classics.

I’m reading Mark Helprin’s Winter’s Tale right now, but in the past few months I’ve decided I want to spend more time reading blogged work. So far I’ve been blown away by what I’ve found. If you know of any other authors sharing their creativity on this site, I would love to know about them.

Your work. I’ve been reading the other person that you did a review of. His work is very detailed and enjoyable to read. And I’ve been reading a lot of poetry. Trying new things: stream of consciousness and blackout poetry. There is a lot of great talent here.

Leaders take us far away from ecology
With mythology and astrology
Got some words to say
About the way we live today
Why can’t we learn to love each other
It’s time to turn a new face
To the whole world wide human race
Stop the money chase
Lay back, relax
Get back on the human track
Stop racing towards oblivion
Oh, such a sad, sad state we’re in
And that’s a thing

I loved this book. I still use the word grok to communicate a need for more than surface level understanding on any subject.
