First Impressions

What’s the first impression you want to give people?

1998, just about to graduate from college. Foul mouthed, hot headed, gonna solve all the world’s problems, blossoming adult. I snagged an internship. That coveted prize for all college students. Especially those headed out into the working world with thousands of dollars in loans. This prize above all others could parlay into a real world real job. 🎶Money, money, money, money!🎶

My bestie loves to tell the story of her first impression of me; stated above. Foul mouthed, hot headed, she really didn’t care for me. I can’t remember how we became besties. Or what that first moment was that changed her mind. We have been besties for more than 20 years.

How’s that for first impressions?

People can change. I’m so not that person anymore. I may look the same and have some of the same interests.

  1. I’ve had a series of friends/mentors over the years. Each one brought something to my life and then most left. I’m gracious for the gifts each of these people gave to me and hope that I was able to reciprocate that favor in some form. I have consistently reminded my daughter (now in university) that she needs to be herself and not wear a mask as many people do. The people you attract are a direct result of who you appear to be, thusly if you want truly well-matched friends that you can share your gifts to and fro with, you shouldn’t be fake. She too has made some wonderful friends already.

    1. I’m happy she is making wonderful friends. They are so hard to come by. There is a story, I’m going to have to look it up about people being in your life for a day, a week, a season. I believe it’s so true. The people we meet are (for them too) we help each other get to where we need to be. Thanks for reading. 💕
