The most important invention in your lifetime is…

I’m not just talking about talking for the sake of listening to your mouth move. Having a conversation about anything… stuff.

Here is what I’m trying to illustrate. In an interview Elon Musk said, “his mind is a storm”. A multitude of doctors have come out on their own pod casts to talk about why he would say that.

Doyle writes about Sherlock Holmes, “My mind, rebels at stagnation. Give me problems, give me work, give me the most abstruse cryptogram or the most intricate analysis, and I am in my own proper atmosphere. I can dispense then with artificial stimulants. But I abhor the dull routine of existence. I crave for mental exaltation.”

How do you fit into the conversation about the mind? My mind is all over the place. For example, I just read a lovely poem and my mind goes to ‘ticket to ride’.

We were watching a piece of local news one day about where the police dug up someone’s entire driveway looking for a body, I think. I made the comment, there is a machine they could have used to drag over the driveway. Archeologists use it. To which I received, ‘You just made that up, science fiction nonsense’. But I couldn’t remember the name of the device. Lack of focus? Lack of maturity?

But we can have these conversations now with not as much stigma as in the past. Elon Musk can talk about his mind being a storm. Doyle saying that Holmes rebels against stagnation. And I can talk about how my mind is all over the place. Pulling even more attention to the fact that even though we are human, we are all different.

  1. I was reminded of a lyric from a Cheech and Chong song when I read this.

    “My head is like a sieve.” I found the song! It’s Ear ache my eye from Up in Smoke.

    That’s how my mind works. Everything is associated to something. Most things I remember are connected to a story or some image I have stored somewhere. It’s hard for me to find specific things but random things pop up all the time.

  2. The neurolink stuff and mind control research is terrifying to me. I would say the most important invention of my time is the internet, but that led to all this going on too.

    1. Neurolink isn’t the first company to use chips to interface with computers in humans. There is a Swiss company (I think) that has done it with man who was in a motorcycle accident and was paralyzed for 8 years (I think); with the chip interface and physical therapy he was walking with a walker. I think the technology is fascinating but the temptation for human interference is beyond measure.

      4. There is an episode of The Big Bang Theory where Howard (with help) develops a new gizmo and the military wants it. That was never their intent but the university pretty much makes them. I can’t imagine developing anything only to have someone use it for the very thing I didn’t want it used for. Be it a gizmo or a quote.

      2. Are we humans able to have peace? On a global scale? Or a personal scale? Is peace the unobtainable goal? In the Bible, we couldn’t even make it past the first family before we had our first murder. If we could have a real, open conversation about peace, that would be amazing. On a global scale, what is one thing humanity can agree on?

    1. Sadly, I think part of it is cynical. Society is making fun of people when they open up about mental health or mental difficulties. With comments like, they people are just trying to pull attention to themselves. Any publicity is better than no publicity.

      Personally, I think it’s good. We all don’t fit into this cookie cutter school system that the U.S. has. We don’t test the same, react the same, let along think the same. It might inconvenience someone or eat into our profit margin if we actually taught children as individuals.

      It should never be a stigma to have a different learning style. Or as it is commonly referred to, a learning disability. As the same time, highly intelligent children shouldn’t be held back waiting for other children to catch up.

      1. I loved the title, then saw Mom and Chico, said, I’m checking this one out. I’m a mom, (Black and Mexican. I’m Pro-Black and Pro-People of Color (if not me who?) NOT a racist! Married a White. It IS possible to cheer for your people but NOT hate and be a racist at the same time. I cheer for, and speak for, the “underdog” and speak for those conditioned to blieve they have no power, no voice. Other people THINK it privately, but I’ll SAY it out loud. Congrats to ou!
