Winter Season

Mambo

When he woke, she was gone. He looked everywhere for her. Then it dawned on him that he smelt coffee. By the coffee pot was a note, ‘went home to take a shower’.

He called.

“Hi there handsome,” it was as if she was singing to him.

He couldn’t help but smile. “Hello beautiful.”

“Are you okay this mornin’?”

“Of course, you?”

“I’m good.”

“I was wondering why you abandoned me?”

“I didn’t. I just needed a shower.”

“You know how we could solve is don’t ya?”

“I’m all ears.”

“You could leave stuff here. And I could do likewise.”

“Hmm,” she voiced. He could hear the playfulness in her tone.

“Yes?” He was smiling so much it hurt.

She giggled hanging up the phone. He almost ran to the bathroom. This feeling he had was amazing. He had never been on a high this high for as long as he could remember.

Esther was finished before him. She let herself in and put a c.d. in the stereo. She had closed her eyes and was bobbing her head to the music. Old Spice flooded her senses.  She laid her head on his chest as he glided his hands around her waist.

“Have I ever told you how much Old Spice turns me on?”

He kissed her ear, “I believe you have.” He let her go and moved the coffee table.

“Shall we dance?”

“I’d love to Mr. Patterson.“

He smiled as he took her hand.

“So, I shared with you my first experience. What about you?”

She blushed, “oh if I tell you I will have to kill you.”

“Nothing.” He asked wounded.

She thought for a moment, “I will tell you that I was 28. By no means a little kid. And it was more or less a one night stand.”

“Okay, I can live with that.”

Mambo No. 5 started playing.

“I’m not so sure I know how to dance to this song.”

“May I teach you?”

“You can try.”

“This song is a jive dance. Can you do a Swing or the Jitterbug?”

“A little but I was never good at either.”

“Then you have a base at least. Okay, you have two triple steps and a rock step.” He showed her how to do it. The song stopped and he used the remote to restart it. He pulled her close, “Okay, I’m going to start out 1 – left foot closes to the right foot. 2 – Replace weight to right foot.  3 thru 5 Chasse to side left right left. 6 thru 8 Chasse to side right left right. You on the first step will right foot closes to left foot. 2 – Replace weight to right foot. 3 thru 5 chasse to side; right left right. 6 thru 8 chasse to side; right left right.”

It took her about a half an hour before she got the hang of it.

“We will get the basic down then I’ll teach you some of the more advanced leg work.”

She laughed, “oh, I can’t wait.”
