My last weight loss journey; what now!

I’ve been having some issues lately. So I decided to start walking more. Deep sigh. Not enough hours in a day to do all the things I want/need to do.

So yesterday I went walking in my neighborhood. Save gas and time, right? People have dogs but we sure don’t take community mined measures with them. One neighbor had let their dogs out to use the bathroom; no fence, no leash. One of them came running after me. It was a small dog. In the end, no harm. On up the road, this big dog decides that I’m okay, after many sniffs. A random neighbor tells me he’s the neighborhood dog. He roams free. I didn’t go as far as I wanted to go because at the last house on the road, I couldn’t tell if the aggressive dog was tied or not. No fence. So I just turned around. Either go to the park or put a bag of dog treats in my pocket.

Today, I went to the park. It has 2 entrances; one is on the playground side.

The other is on the dog park side.

Your puppies are to be on a leash when they are not in the fenced in area. Only once did I see a park user not have a dog on a leash. When confronted about it got hostile because the dog was old and in their opinion didn’t need to be on a leach. Just follow the rules, 🫣.

I had no idea our park was as big as it is.

It also has a frisbee golf course.

It made me very happy to see people using the course.

There are areas of the park where dogs are not allowed.

No everyone loves my Chico as good as I do.

There are several of these stations around when your puppy has a potty emergency.

And human potty emergencies.

We have a very pretty park.

It made me very happy to see that people and their pets were using the park.

Found 2 more Little Libraries. 😉

The first lap I chose, didn’t bring me to half of my goal. The second lap took me over lap. But I was regretting it long before I made it to my car.

I have included these to links with this post. There is a lot of truth in my writing.

    1. I take allergy meds every day. I had an allergist tell me to rotate brands every 30 days. Your body builds up a tolerance to the medication. Have you tried Astrepro nasal spray? It works well for me.

      1. I have not tried that, I may need to look into it. I just had the internet deliver me a Traditional Chinese Medicine formulation that has worked wonders in the past and it seems to have kicked the worse of the fog out of my head this morning. It’s been years, so I wasn’t sure if it would still work. And no side effects except maybe a slightly dry mouth so far.

Otherwise, I avoid taking most things because the cure is often as bad as or worse than the disease for me. But I’ll check out that Astrepro, in case I need a backup.

  1. That’s a beautiful park. My goal is to play a full round (18 holes) of disc golf ten times this summer. We did one already it was lots of fun.

I am ambivalent about dog parks because people don’t follow the rules. My dog got bit once by a dog not on a leash. It’s tough because if your dog is on a leash and a non-leashed dog runs up (which they always do) it’s your dog that will generally turn aggressive, natural I think because they’re being restrained and the other dog is free. As a result our dogs never get to go out, but they do rule the back yard!

Sad story: We actually had a situation last year at the dog park in Reno where an unleashed pit bull ran up and assaulted a smaller dog. The owners were on a road trip and let the pit out to go to the bathroom. When the owner of the smaller dog couldn’t extricate himself and his dog from the situation, he pulled out his Glock and shot and killed the pit bull, who was of course a sweet rescue therapy animal. Tragedy for everybody, just because the owner of the pit didn’t follow the rules. The shooter was released because he claimed he felt personally endangered and had no other option. The owner of the pit was devastated, and animal rights groups went nuts. All of it could have been avoided with a simple leash.

    1. I don’t understand. Rules are in place for a reason. Yes, that sounds like a bad situation for everyone. 😢

Hope you get to meet your goal. Never played disc golf before. It looks like fun. Spoke with one man that was playing who said we had one of the best courses he’d ever played. 🎉 Go us.

Our town (somewhere) is building pickleball courts. Haven’t played that either.

      Sorry your dog was bitten.

Cheekie has been to the dog park twice, I think. He didn’t much care for the play area. He’d much rather be where the people are. He tolerates other animals to get to the people.

  2. The dog bite was years ago and I’m sure he both gave and received many more. He was my first and I was not a very good owner. I lived in a rural area where I could just let him out the door and he roamed with a pack. I’ve learned a lot since then🤓

  3. You should give the disc golf a try. It’s a great way to get some exercise and fresh air. The best part: it’s free, other than the cost of a disc (they’re specially designed for the game but I bet you can find one at a garage sale or online for less than $10) and a good pair of shoes.

      1. Thanks. I’d have to find someone else to play with and then figure out a course. I’ll probably just get stuck in the ice cream place along the way…

  4. Reading about the dog encounters I really felt for you. Walking is a huge part of my health and fitness. I count myself lucky I’m not having to deal with a lot of unleashed dogs, people are jerks sometimes. Anyway your park is beautiful. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

    1. Thank you 💕 I’m glad you enjoyed our park. I recently bought a newer used Apple Watch (series 3) and it seems to do better at tracking progress. The last one I had, (series 1) I could push mow for an hour and only get 15 minutes of exercise.
