A special thank you to Violent Lentz for write an amazing forward.

Forward

When Jolene Rice asked me to write the forward to this, her latest book; Sunshine Valley, I was immediately humbled, as outside of this work I knew so little about her as a person. However through question and answer and a thorough inspection of her previous works I was introduced to one of the most gentle, forthright individuals I have had the pleasure to come to know.

Jolene is a Kentucky girl, a true and proud Appalachian, and comes across in her writing as authentic to her characters. She tells stories of real life. Creates situations that we as readers can identify with, and very probably have experienced similar events in our own lives. The characters often speak in the vernacular of the region, and the way Jolene writes this dialect

makes it so simple to read and hear the words in the way she knows they would be spoken.

Her characters in Sunshine Valley come fully equipped with not only great strengths, but fears and flaws that we can all relate to. Where I found Jolene’s true genius was in the way she deals with conflict resolution. She does so with patience and compassion. She works within the parameters of her Christian faith, but does so in such a way that neither she nor her characters

come off as self righteous or preachy, and to me as a reader of the Non-Christian persuasion, this was truly both inviting and refreshing.

If you are looking for an author that writes with genuine flavor, and the honesty it takes to make the characters completely relatable, then I would say, in the works of Jolene Rice, you have found yourself a home.

  1. Great story (so far, I’m not done reading this one yet) and a great introduction. Love your storytelling, both of you. Violet and Jolene, I feel so privileged to have you both as part of my WP club. I’m so grateful for your support. Keep on truckin’ ladies!
