Coreopsis 17 b

Sarah had just lain down when there was a knock at her door. She flipped on a lamp, “come.”

Orion entered her room with a wild look on his face, “what’s wrong?”

“I want you to meet someone.”

“Orion, it’s two in the morning.”

   “Humor me.” He was upset.

She got up. He noticed she was wearing a red Bredone t-shirt with white lettering and a pair of red and white flowered shorts with red socks. He didn’t give her time to put on a pair of house shoes that were lying beside the bed. Before she could blink they were in Juliah’s chamber. He stood Sarah in front of Michael.

   “Look at him.” Orion encouraged.

Juliah stood beside of Orion, “what’s this about?”

“What am I looking for?” Sarah asked, as she looked Michael over.

“Sarah, you’re a doctor. You get paid to figure things out. You see things other people don’t see.” Orion was animate about this.

She looked again. “Interesting, we have the same eye color.”

   “May I speak?” Michael asked.

   “Please,” Juliah instructed.

“Lot’s of people have blue eyes,” Michael pointed out.

“Not our color blue. Only .001% of the entire population has this eye color.”

“How do you know that?” Michael asked.

“I did the math.” Sarah turned her head toward Orion and Juliah.

Juliah gasped, “They are the same color. But something is different. And look at the bridge of the nose. They look the same.”

“Orion,” Sarah sighed. “Are you suggesting that Michael and I are kin?”

“Michael says that he has a younger sister. How old are you?” Orion asked.

   “28, sir.”

“Could you be kin to him?” Orion asked.

“It’s not outside the realm of impossibility.” She studied Michael again. “I’ve never met you before.”

   “Nor I you.”

She took two steps back. “For some reason, I know you. Not you but the person you represent.”

   “What does that mean?”

   “Parents maybe.” Juliah deduced.

   “I don’t know.” Sarah answered.

“It’s just too strange.” Orion rubbed his forehead. “I’m sorry. I will let everyone go back to bed.” Orion and Juliah embraced before he walked Sarah back to her chambers.

“You looked amazing tonight.” He spoke as they walked down the hallway.

“Thank you,” she smiled. “You looked a slice of alright yourself.”

   He laughed, “what?”

“I’ve been told I have my own language. I like to call it Sarah-fied.”

“You were right about one thing.”

They stopped at her door. “You have changed my life.”

She smiled as she opened the door, “told ya.” She closed it behind her. “Good night Prince.”

“Good night.” He wanted so much to push the door open, capture her in his arms, and hold her all night long. He wasn’t sure how much longer he could fight these feelings.

He couldn’t fight the impulse, he knocked on her door.

“Yes,” she opened a tiny crack.

“How long do you think you will be staying with us?”

“As long as Dr. Carter needs me or until my office falls apart. Whichever one comes first.”

“Please stay as long as you want too.”

“I don’t want to overstay my welcome.”

   “Good night.” He whispered.

“Good night.” She gently shut the door.
