Sarah woke by being gently shuck. James was trying to wake her up. She had fallen asleep in the chair.
“Walk with me.” He asked.
She looked over to see that Orion had fallen backwards onto the bed. She couldn’t walk away and not cover him up.
After she had attended to him, she followed James outside.
“Thank you.” He finally spoke.
“For what?”
“Being so kind to my son.” She didn’t say a word. This had started because she was a doctor and he was ill. But something else was happening. “Has Dr. Carter explained your mission to you?”
“No, we haven’t had time.”
James stopped. “It would please me if you would stay even if his mission for you has nothing to do with my son.”
“Why?”
“Orion has no respect for Dr. Carter. As a point of fact, I think he hates him. He will not let the good doctor near him. He has respect for you and maybe a little something more.”
She didn’t answer him.
“Doctor?”
Her mind was lost in thought. She finally spoke. “I will do what he will allow me to do.”
“I can’t argue with that.” They started walking again. “Do you have feelings for my son?”
“Orion infuriates me. I want to kill him. He is the only person that has been able to make me cry in years. I worry that he really is going to die. I get pissed because I know there is something I can do to help him. We just have to figure it out.”
“Oh, yes. You must stay.” James smiled. “We are going on a trip Monday. This should give you and Dr. Carter plenty of time to figure out what he wants.”
“Of course.”
“You don’t look happy about this.” He observed.
“Would you be?”
“Child, don’t fight this.” He sighed, “I don’t know what we will decide about this divorce mess. I’m not saying to do any thing immoral. I’m just saying don’t walk away from this.”
“You sound like the Count.” She did just that, she walked away.
