I super enjoy the Mayhem Allstate commercials. Sadly for me, I called the ad agency that does those and was told they didn’t accept outside ideas. 😢
Song choices for commercial: PSY, Gangnam Style or Flo Rida, Apple Bottom Jeans ft. T-Pain
In front (beside) the office building where I work, there is a group of people celebrating. They are not professional actors or dancers. They have been instructed to dress in a costume and as the music plays they are to do their own thing. If a few people are dancing n’sync; that’s okay. There is a construction worker, a coal miner, a lawyer, a judge, others are a slew of randomness. A drone is flying over the crowd. Camera rigging can be seen in the frame. The director yells “action.”
The Easter Bunny (me) dances down the ramp from the back of the building as the crowd gets their groove on. There is nothing special about the bunny. The small crowd won’t let the bunny through and I (the bunny) have to fight my way (pushing and shoving) through the dancers. All of the dancers are wearing masks. Some are decorated. Some are not.
Mayhem is standing across the street leaning up against a service pole watching this disaster unfold.
A dump truck (hauling coal since we are part of coal country) rolls into frame. As it gets close to the scene, there is a real rabbit in the road; the driver hits the breaks, the truck pulls to the right (toward the crowd). The driver over corrects. The gate on the truck opens and the load starts to spill. A chunk of coal rolls to a stop at (or on) Mayhem’s shoe. He doesn’t move from his spot. But grins that mischievous grin he’s known for. The truck comes to a stop on the sidewalk hitting a wall; across the road from the dancing crowd, bringing down a power pole.
A car is following behind the dump truck. The driver hits the spilt load and flips behind a small wall that is in front of the dancing crowd. This phases no one.
The rabbit is gone.
Mayhem starts walking toward the crowd (still doing their thing) delivering his ‘his insurance’ lines and almost gets hit by a bicyclist who is paying more attention to the crowd than the road.
He (Mayhem) starts laughing (at the disfunction of the dancers) as the dancing crowd finally lets the bunny through to be in front. To Mayhem’s shock and surprise, he has realized the bunny is dressed like him, minus a tie.
Random people have stopped to watch the show. Having realized they are seeing a commercial being filmed.
Mayhem walks over to the dancing bunny and screams “mayhem is my job”. The music changes to the opening sequence of S & M by Rihanna. Mayhem and the Easter Bunny start to tussle. Even roll around on the ground.
The commercial ends with Mayhem and the bunny (me) sitting on the flipped car. Mayhem is wearing the bunny head and I have Mayhem’s tie around my head. A person climbs out of the flipped car. I wave a real carrot at the camera saying, “can I get this in chocolate?” Mayhem continues laughing. The person climbing out of the car is dazed and confused. “He could have to pay for this himself.” Mayhem says.
Disclaimer: no rabbits were injured in the making of this commercial. As a real bunny hops in between me and Mayhem. I offer the rabbit the carrot.
This concept could also be used during play-offs with each of the dancers being dressed as their favorite SEC team. The Easter Bunny is UK (University of KY) of course. Instead of being dressed up like Mayhem. However, I think the bunny being dressed like Mayhem would be funnier. Unless at the end of the commercial, where I have Mayhem’s tie around my neck, his shirt is open a little from the tussle and you can see the top of a UK t-shirt? 🤭
