Really enjoyed this, Jolene.
I love how the narrator says her family didn’t tell ghost stories, then gives us a whole landscape full of mountain lore, old deaths and things that don’t quite add up. And then the earthly jump scare at the end: the one thing she can say was real. Such a lovely, grounding final turn.
